Jimmy Ryan & Friends Live at Bird & Beckett

December 18, 2008

Here’s a nice set of photos from Jimmy Ryan and friends performing live on December 12, 2008 as part of Bird & Beckett‘s weekly Jazz in the Bookshop series. On this night, Jimmy was joined by his son Joel Ryan on trumpet, Don Alberts on piano, Bishu Chatterjee on bass, Rick Elmore on trombone, and the lovely Dorothy Lefkovits on vocals.

This fantastic neighborhood venue not only fosters great live music on a regular basis, but owner Eric Whittington also runs a store that’s full of interesting books and one that sponsors lots of other events such as spoken word nights and book signings, and he does it all with the help of his son and a great community vibe — what’s not to like about that? So make sure to visit and support this little gem of a bookstore/venue the next time you’re in the Glen Park neighborhood, it’s definitely not to be missed.

Nefasha Ayer Live at the Red Poppy

December 4, 2008

Here’s a new collection of photographs and two audio tracks, Longing for the Shore and Hello, from Nefasha Ayer performing live at the Red Poppy Art House on November 1, 2008. The musicians delivered a fantastic night of music, and as the second track clearly shows, the audience was really feeling the groove — another great night of music at the Poppy!
