Jekabson, Rissanen, Shifflet & Sumelius Live at the Red Poppy Art House

January 20, 2006

Last night I had a great time recording Andre Sumelius on drums, Aki Rissanen on piano, Erik Jekabson on trumpet and fugle horn, and John Shifflett on bass at the Red Poppy Art House in the Mission. The venue was cozy and welcoming, the atmoshpere was excellent, the acoustics were great, and the jazz was inspiring! We were treated to some swingin’ playing by the band and their special guest Aki Rissanen. Aki was visiting from Finland and has performed all around Europe, and in 2004, won second prize in the international Montreux Jazz Solo Piano Competition, so it was a real treat to have him in town.

You can click the links below to listen to their entire performance and to watch a short film I shot of Moose the Mooche, which was the last song of the night.
